
Kota Kinabalu: A shop owner was fined a total RM5,000 or 60 days’ jail by the Session Court for allowing an undocumented immigrant to stay at his premises.
Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim meted out the sentence to Ronnie Heror Edward, 51, after he pleaded guilty.
Ronnie was found permitting the 45-year-old Indonesian man, who did not have any documents, to be at Pidung Kahang food and drink stall, Kg Dungkahong, in Penampang at 11.40am on Aug 23, last year.
The offence, under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, carries a jail term of up to a year or a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhd Azizi Hamil applied for another date and offered bail RM10,000.
Counsel Edward Paul, representing Jack, requested for lenient bail amount of RM5, 000.
The court allowed the accused to post an RM5,000 bail with two local sureties and to report to the police station once a month.
