A viral Threads post showing a flat corridor blocked by metal grills has sparked outrage online, with netizens raising safety concerns and debating the issue.
A Threads post questioning how people are supposed to access a home blocked by metal grills has gone viral, sparking frustration and debate among Malaysians online.
The post, shared by user @cikainsladurrar, has garnered 6,900 likes and more than 300 comments, with many netizens criticising the situation shown.
In the caption, the user wrote “Maybe Threads users can help explain how to get to the house over there.”
The post appears to show a flat corridor obstructed by multiple locked grills, making access difficult for others.
Many netizens were quick to call out the issue, describing it as selfish and dangerous, especially in emergencies.
budak_kampung78 wrote “Imagine if there’s a fire… no one reports this? How did the fire department even approve this?”
“This will only make it harder for firefighters during a fire. Couriers delivering parcels would be swearing. Even people trying to move furniture will struggle because of selfish owners installing grills like this,” itsjojiontalk commented.
Several users also criticised the authorities and management for allegedly not taking action.
shafeeqmn said “Just imagine… the grill is already rusting like that, how long has it been there? Impossible that no one has reported it all this time. The local council, management office, all sleeping in a residential area like this.”
“Sometimes when people report to the local council, they don’t even come. People selfishly install grills along flat corridors, especially in older flats,” ezzackalex added.
Others took a harsher tone, saying such behaviour reflects a lack of consideration for neighbours.
en_petak_parking wrote “Only one thing to say… you can be poor, but don’t be foolish. Living in a flat but installing fences like this only troubles others.”
“If you feel so rich, go live in a terrace house. You can build any fence you want there. This just causes trouble for others,” mozakizdihar commented.
Some netizens pointed out that while safety could be a concern, blocking shared spaces is not the solution.
zu_ella said “If it’s for safety, maybe it’s understandable. But at least give a set of keys to neighbours so everyone can access.”
However, a few users admitted they understood why some residents might resort to such measures.
thisismeafi_ shared “Everyone in the comments is angry, but for me, living in a flat, I’ve had thoughts of doing this because kids play noisily at all hours.”
