MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Imee Marcos urged her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to relieve National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag and two others over the NBI's alleged involvement in the shooting incident at the Senate on Wednesday night.
The senator wrote the President on May 14 to express "serious concern over the alleged siege and firing of shots" by the NBI agents within the Senate premises on May 13.
"The incident caused public alarm and raised grave questions on the security of the Senate and the accountability of law enforcement officers involved," Sen. Marcos said.
Aside from Matibag, she also sought the relief of NBI National Capital Region Chief Emeterio Dongallo Jr. and NBI-Organized and Transnational Crime Division Chief Jerome Bomediano "in view of the seriousness of these allegations and without prejudging the outcome of any investigation."
"Such temporary relief is necessary to preserve the integrity and credibility of the investigation and to remove any appearance of undue influence or impropriety," she said.
