JOHOR BAHRU - The Immigration Department (JIM) has conducted inspections on 266 foreigners from 40 countries at Forest City yesterday, following allegations that the ‘Network School’ operations there involved Israeli nationals.
JIM director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Johor State Secretary's Office and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
"Initial checks found that all individuals inspected possessed valid immigration documents based on current records.
"However, further checks and investigations are ongoing to ensure full compliance with entry requirements, provisions under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and other relevant laws,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Zakaria said all foreign nationals entering Malaysia are subject to immigration laws and regulations, and entry screenings at the country's borders are conducted based on travel documents, checks against relevant databases and available enforcement records.
"Nevertheless, further investigations will be carried out into any matter that raises concerns or if new information emerges regarding possible misuse of identities, travel documents, immigration facilities or breaches of issued pass conditions,” he noted.
Zakaria said the department would continue working closely with the Home Ministry (KDN) and other relevant agencies to ensure all matters under their respective jurisdictions are reviewed comprehensively, professionally and in accordance with the law to safeguard national security, sovereignty and interests.
Yesterday, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi urged KDN and its agencies to investigate the operations of the ‘Network School’ in Forest City following allegations that Israeli nationals were among its participants.
Onn Hafiz said the individuals were believed to have entered Malaysia using second-country passports to attend the programme, raising public concerns.
The issue emerged after several posts, including videos shared on Threads, questioned the actual purpose of the Network School's operations in Forest City and alleged the involvement of foreign nationals, including Israelis.- BERNAMA
