THE Immigration employes uniion, known as, Kesatuan Perkhidmatan Imigresen Semenanjung Malaysia (KPISM) is calling for an expedited investigation and firm legal action following an incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in which an immigration officer was assaulted by a Chinese national.
KPISM President, Ajeet Singh Gurbax Singh, said that any act of provocation or physical assault against public servants must be met with legal consequences, regardless of whether the perpetrator is Malaysian or a foreign national.
“Any action that contravenes Malaysian law is a direct affront to the sovereignty of our legal system, and every traveller must respect the laws of the country they visit,” he said in a statement on Friday.
He added that the union takes the matter seriously as the assaulted officer is a member of KPISM and urged the Agensi Kawalan dan Perlindungan Sempadan (AKPS) to take proactive steps to ensure the safety of both officers on duty and other travellers.
“KPISM hopes the Ministry will revisit the proposal to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) at every counter to ensure more comprehensive and efficient monitoring of immigration procedures,” he added.
The union has strongly condemned the attack and the verbal abuse directed at the female officer from the Immigration Department of Malaysia, who was stationed at the Immigration Inspection Counter in the Departure Hall of KLIA Terminal 1 at around 7:40am.
“In the incident, a foreign passenger verbally abused, pulled the headscarf, and shoved the officer’s head, causing minor injuries,” said Ajeet Singh. “The quick action of airport security personnel successfully brought the situation under control, and the case has since been referred to the authorities for further investigation and legal action.”
He affirmed that the union would continue to provide full support to the officer involved, including welfare assistance and legal counsel until justice is served.
“Immigration officers are the front line of national sovereignty. Assaulting them while they are carrying out their duties is not only a disgraceful act but tarnishes the country’s image and threatens security at international entry points,” he said.
Media reports on Thursday stated that a Chinese woman had been detained after behaving aggressively and injuring an immigration officer during departure clearance at KLIA on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at the Departure Hall of KLIA Terminal 1 during the clearance of four Chinese nationals—two adults and two children. - August 15, 2025
