Fatal impact injuries and drowning confirmed as causes of death for three workers after a lifeboat plunge at Sepat FSO off Kuala Terengganu.
KUALA TERENGGANU: Severe injuries caused by strong impact and drowning have been identified among the causes of death of three workers who perished after the lifeboat they were in plunged into the sea at the Sepat floating storage and offloading (FSO) facility, located about 150 metres off the Kuala Terengganu waters, at midday yesterday.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said post-mortem results on the first victim found that Nik Muhammad Hafifi Asri Ab Majid, 38, died from serious abdominal injuries caused by a strong impact.
“Muhammad Faezuan Hakim Mohammad Bustamam, 28, died from neck injuries, while Ahmad Fiqri Zakaria, 38, drowned,” he said when contacted.
He said post-mortems on all three victims were conducted from 10 am to 2.15 pm today, after which their remains were claimed by their respective families.
Bernama reported yesterday that three oil platform workers were killed while another was seriously injured after the lifeboat they were in plunged into the sea during maintenance work at Sepat FSO.
The injured victim, Mohd Taufik Mohd Ruslan, 37, is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah.
