PETALING JAYA - The safety of motorcyclists remains among the Transport Ministry's main priorities through active discussions with the Public Works Department.
Its minister, Anthony Loke said that the ministry fully supports any proposal to upgrade facilities for motorcyclists, including special motorcycle lanes.
However, the implementation doesn't come under the Transport Ministry but is under the provision of the Public Works Department, he added.
The implementation of the special motorcycle lane project on all routes involves huge expenses on top of existing financial constraints, Loke explained.
"But that is not the reason for not implementing the agenda.
"Although we can’t do everything now, we will identify which areas and districts are deemed problematic and have the most motorcycle accidents," he said during a question-and-answer session with the audience during Sinar’s Townhall Rakyat today.
