MLA Anuradha Rana lays the stone of River Rafting Centre at Rangrik village in Lahaul Spiti.

In a major boost to civic infrastructure and adventure tourism in Lahaul-Spiti district, MLA Anuradha Rana yesterday laid the foundation stone for a Rs 5.99-crore sewerage project in Kaza, a long-pending initiative aimed at improving sanitation and environmental sustainability in the region.

The sewerage project is expected to significantly enhance public hygiene in Kaza, one of Himachal Pradesh’s most visited tourist destinations, which attracts thousands of visitors throughout the year for its breathtaking natural landscapes.

Upon completion, every household in the region will be connected to the sewerage network, ensuring proper wastewater management and contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment for both residents and tourists.

The project is expected to address a long-standing demand of the local population while supporting the sustainable growth of tourism in the ecologically sensitive region. Improved sanitation infrastructure will also help preserve the fragile ecosystem of Spiti Valley and strengthen Kaza’s capacity to cater to the increasing tourist influx.

The MLA also laid the foundation stone for a River Rafting and Adventure Sports Training Centre at Rangrik village to be constructed at a cost of Rs 28.81 lakh. The project will be implemented by the Block Development Department.

Block Development Officer Anshul Shandil informed that all necessary formalities related to the project have been completed and construction work is scheduled to commence next week.

Speaking on the occasion, Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana said the proposed training centre would create new opportunities for local youth by equipping them with professional skills in adventure sports while promoting self-employment. She noted that Lahaul-Spiti possesses immense potential for adventure tourism and the creation of such infrastructure would not only enhance tourism activities but would also enable local youth to benefit directly from the growing sector.

She directed the executing department to ensure that the construction work is completed within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high quality standards so that the facility could be made available to local youth and visiting tourists at the earliest.

The twin projects reflect the government’s focus on strengthening essential infrastructure alongside promoting sustainable tourism and employment opportunities in the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti.
