Globally known as the ‘Handloom City’, Panipat will soon get a state-of-the-art truck parking facility, which will be developed in Sector 25, Part-2. Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda and MLA Pramod Vij on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the project.
The facility is being developed through the joint efforts of Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, MLA from Panipat Rural Assembly constituency, and Pramod Vij, MLA from Panipat City.
The new truck parking facility is expected to improve traffic management in the city. Earlier, there was no designated space for truck parking. With this facility, there will be an organised and secure space for parking heavy vehicles, which will help ease traffic congestion.
Addressing the gathering, Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda said that the state government led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini delivers on its promises.
On the occasion, MLA Pramod Vij said that efforts are underway to improve traffic conditions in the city and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Saini for continuously initiating development projects aimed at making the city more developed.
The parking facility will be constructed over approximately eight acres at a cost of Rs 9 crore. It will be developed in two phases — the first covering 5.5 acres and the second 3 acres.
A total of 185 large trucks can be accommodated, and around 30 booking offices will also be allotted within the complex. In addition, 30 shops will be constructed. Once completed, the facility will provide truck drivers with basic amenities such as bathrooms, toilets and kitchen facilities within the premises.
Adequate arrangements for electricity and water will also be ensured.
Among those present on the occasion were Dr Pankaj Yadav, Municipal Corporation Commissioner; Chetan Taneja; Tarsem Garg; Councillor Bittu Prajapati; and other local leaders.
