The annual Lunar New Year, or more often referred to as Chinese New Year, is one of the most important annual festivals for the Chinese community worldwide. It is a time for families, colleagues and friends to get together and exchange auspicious wishes for the year to come
It has been the customs at home and practices at public places such as office complexs and shopping malls will be decorated and everyone will look forward to all the great fun that comes with the celebration. Our children look forward receiving of red packets containing money & mesmerising dragon, lion dance performances from house to house. Chinese community welcomed community of all races with open arms.
What makes CNY celebration in Malaysia so unique is the concept of open house that is practised across the country. Throughout the grand celebration period, many would open up their homes for neighbours, friends, colleagues and relatives to visit regardless of race and religion. Guests will be served with well-prepared food & festive goodies. Mindfulness hosts will endure that halal food being served for Muslims.
In this context, my wife, Zarina and I, unannounced and without appointment made a surprised visit to the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Kong, our long time friends in Dengkil just to find out their preparation and readiness for the grand CNY festivals scheduled on 20-30 January, 2025. True enough they were really busy making and baking all kind of nice aroma Malaysian cookies as well as decorating plants to beautify their home that will create cheerful environment. Mr. Kong is an entrepreneur & community leader will organise a large-scale CNY open house.
Mr. & Mrs. Kong invited my wife & I to join their family for the wonderful activities to make & bake cookies as well as decorating the plants. We were more more than happy to accept this invitation. As the oriental way of thanksgiving for our visit they presented us with oranges.
