Officials take stock of arrangements for ‘An Evening in the Name of Lord Shiva’ in Amritsar.

The holy city is all set to resonate with devotional hymns as renowned singer Hansraj Raghuwanshi will perform during “An Evening in the Name of Lord Shiva”, a grand religious programme to be held at the PITEX Ground, Ranjit Avenue, on Saturday.

Jointly organised by the Sanatan Sewa Samiti Punjab and the Punjab Government’s Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, the event is expected to draw thousands of devotees from across the region. “All preparations for the programme have been completed,” said Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh.

The arrangements were reviewed by Adviser to the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Deepak Bali, Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Sanatan Sewa Samiti Punjab president Vijay Sharma and other senior officials.

Sharing details, the Deputy Commissioner said the programme will commence at 6.30 pm. Elaborate arrangements have been made for security, parking, drinking water and medical assistance to ensure a hassle-free experience for devotees.

Deepak Bali said the initiative aims to inspire young people to stay away from drugs and reconnect with their cultural and spiritual heritage. Stressing that the event is above politics, he said it has been organised solely for the welfare of society and appealed to people to participate in large numbers to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Sanatan Sewa Samiti Punjab president Vijay Sharma said entry to the event will be completely free for all devotees.

Meanwhile, the Amritsar Traffic Police have issued a special traffic advisory. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amandeep Kaur advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel on the Hartej Hospital-Gumtala Road stretch and the T-point near In-Out Bakery Road leading to the venue, where special traffic arrangements will remain in force.

Residents travelling towards Ranjit Avenue have been advised to use the alternate route via Rattan Singh Chowk, MK Hotel Road, Best Western Road and C-Market T-point. Commuters entering the city from outside have been asked to take the ITI-Anand Park route.
