In the face of Malaysia's current heatwave and drought conditions, the Deputy Defence Minister, Adly Zahari, has affirmed the readiness of the Malaysia Armed Forces to collaborate with the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) for potential cloud seeding operations. Zahari highlighted the Royal Malaysia Airforce's (RMAF) preparedness to engage in such operations, emphasizing their continuous vigilance despite the absence of specific requests thus far.

Addressing concerns over the lack of rainfall and escalating temperatures, Zahari assured that the Armed Forces stand primed to assist should the need arise. Drawing on past experiences, he noted the Armed Forces' involvement in previous cloud seeding endeavors both in Sabah and the peninsula. "Our air assets are on continuous alert and are ready to cooperate should there be any requests. If there are any requests, we will help," Zahari affirmed during a gathering in Durian Tunggal.

However, Zahari underscored the importance of considering various factors before initiating cloud seeding activities, including cloud conditions and prevailing winds. This caution echoes sentiments expressed earlier by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who emphasized the need for thorough evaluation to maximize the effectiveness of such operations.

Nik Nazmi emphasized the collaborative nature of cloud seeding operations, highlighting the involvement of the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) in ensuring suitability and efficacy. "Cloud seeding operations are carried out with the cooperation of Nadma when it is suitable. Such operations are also not cheap, so when we actually carry them out, it has to be effective," Nik Nazmi stated.

The discussion surrounding cloud seeding reflects the intricate balance between addressing immediate weather-related challenges and optimizing resource utilization. Malaysia's Armed Forces, in conjunction with MetMalaysia and other relevant agencies, remain committed to leveraging their capabilities to mitigate the impacts of the ongoing heatwave and water scarcity.

As the nation navigates through these environmental challenges, the synergy between government entities underscores a proactive approach in safeguarding the well-being of citizens and the sustainability of vital ecosystems. The potential deployment of cloud seeding initiatives represents a strategic intervention in managing water resources and alleviating the strain on agricultural activities and essential infrastructure.

The proactive stance of Malaysia's Armed Forces, coupled with the collaborative efforts of stakeholders, reflects a comprehensive approach to addressing environmental challenges. By remaining vigilant and responsive to emerging needs, Malaysia endeavors to navigate through the current heatwave with resilience and unity, underscoring its commitment to environmental sustainability and the welfare of its populace.
