Get your pink outfits ready, pack your bags, and prepare for a brilliant summer trip down memory lane!
Looking for your next binge-worthy series for the summer? Look no further! The iconic Legally Blonde franchise is getting a brand-new prequel, and we couldn't be more excited. That’s right, the glamorous, pink-loving Elle Woods is officially coming back to our screens for a fabulous new television series this season. Whether you are lounging by the pool or looking for the perfect in-flight entertainment for your next getaway, this is the show to watch.
We all fondly remember the original Legally Blonde from the early 2000s. The cinematic classic followed Elle, a bubbly fashion merchandising major, who spontaneously decides to win back her ex-boyfriend by acing the LSAT and heading to Harvard Law School. Along the way, however, our favourite fashion icon finds herself, discovers her true intellectual potential, and successfully moves on to bigger and better things. With this highly anticipated new series, streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, audiences finally get an inside look into who exactly Elle was before she navigated college and eventually took the Ivy League by storm.

Discovering Elle in high school
Titled simply Elle, the prequel series takes us back to 1995, following the young blonde as a teenager navigating the hallways of high school. The show promises plenty of nostalgic charm, letting viewers watch Elle navigate tricky social hierarchies, forbidden romances, and, yes, make a few questionable fashion choices before finding her signature look. It is the ultimate throwback journey, filled with all the heart, humour, and style of the original films.
During her formative high school years, we also get a much closer look at the domestic life of the Woods family. The series dives deep into Elle’s home life, showcasing how her relationship with her parents shapes her into the confident woman she becomes. Speaking about the upcoming series, Reese Witherspoon—the original, definitive Elle Woods—enthusiastically explained that Elle was 'just a regular ‘90s high school girl' before eventually graduating from Harvard Law. This fresh perspective adds a wonderful layer of depth to a character we already know and love.

A passion project produced by the OG Elle Woods
One of the absolute best parts about this Amazon Prime series is that it is being brought to life by the OG Elle Woods herself. Reese Witherspoon is executive producing the series through her acclaimed production media company, Hello Sunshine. Witherspoon is working alongside the brilliant Laura Kittrell, who serves as the creator and showrunner of the project, as well as Caroline Dries. Knowing the original star is steering the ship ensures the show retains its beloved DNA.
Witherspoon initially announced Elle at the Amazon Upfront presentation back in May 2024, sending fans into a frenzy. The actress playfully stepped back into her iconic role, donning a vibrant pink two-piece suit and walking out accompanied by a cute chihuahua to represent the legendary Bruiser Woods.
Mark your calendars for the premiere
Elle will officially premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 1, 2026. The release date is incredibly special, landing exactly 25 years after Legally Blonde first hit theatres and changed pop culture forever. The series will be available to stream in over 240 countries and territories worldwide, making it the global television event of the summer season.
Stepping into the iconic title role of a young Elle Woods is the talented Lexi Minetree. Meanwhile, Elle’s parents will be brought to life by Tom Everett Scott—who audiences will fondly recognise as Adam Fisher in The Summer I Turned Pretty—and the hilarious June Diane Raphael.
