BEAUFORT: Residents of Kg Ketulang Kuala Balik in Padas Damit urged the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to take firm action against a contractor who allegedly failed to properly clean the village river.
A resident, Jideh Jurin, said the contractor left the site despite the work being incomplete, with long grass and exposed soil still visible.
“This will cause flooding during continuous rain, overflowing into the village,” he said, adding the contractor did not deepen or dredge the river as required.
He said the incomplete work was a waste of government funds and urged authorities to ensure proper maintenance is carried out.
Jideh also appealed to Assistant Minister (Religious Affairs) and Lumadan Assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam as well as Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah to inspect the site themselves.
