'Indians must move beyond traditional issues like temple and Tamil schools' - MIC leader

KLUANG - Johor MIC Information Chief Subramaniam Balakrishnan has urged the Indian community to shift its focus from traditional issues, such as temples and Tamil schools, to more pressing concerns surrounding the economy and education.

With the upcoming election season, Subramaniam championed for a broader, forward-thinking agenda aimed at uplifting the Indian community, the third-largest ethnic group in Malaysia.

"Whenever elections approach, Indians often bring up temple and Tamil school matters.

"However, there are more urgent concerns, particularly in economic opportunities and education, that must be addressed if the Indian community is to thrive in today's competitive landscape," he told Sinar Daily.

Subramaniam believes the community needs a mindset shift, urging Indians to focus on broader developmental issues while still preserving their cultural heritage.

"We must prioritise the economy, education, and, of course, Indian culture.

"These three elements are crucial. Without addressing them, we risk falling behind as other communities advance," he added.

He further stressed the importance of collective responsibility, calling on every member of the Indian community to play a role in its transformation during this era.

"It’s not solely the leaders' duty; every Indian must contribute.

"We need to ensure that everyone in the community has the opportunity to succeed," he said.
