
Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian man pleaded guilty in the High Court, here, Thursday to murdering his wife at a vegetable stall in Kepayan three years ago.
Jedu Rudu, 45, changed his plea to guilty when his case came up for defence before Judge Datuk Alexander Siew How Wai.
The grass cutter admitted murdering his wife, Suria Woade, 38, a coffee shop worker, between 1pm and 2.21pm on April 8, 2023, at a vegetable stall in Kepayan.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years and, if the offender is not sentenced to death, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
Siew ordered both parties to file their respective submissions on mitigating and aggravating factors by June 30.
He fixed July 3 for sentencing.
On Feb 19, the court ordered Jedu to enter his defence after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against him.
The prosecution called nine witnesses during the prosecution stage.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Dacia Jane Romanus appeared for the prosecution while Jedu was represented by counsel Mohamad Syazwan Shah Mohamad Ali and Nigel Neong Kaning.
