JAKARTA - Indonesia is targeting 500,000 skilled migrant worker placements between 2026 and 2029 through its SMK Go Global programme.
The Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers said in a July 21 announcement that its latest schedule allocates 40,000 placements to 2026, 140,000 to each of 2027 and 2028, and 180,000 to 2029.
A separate technical programme announcement said the 2026 training component would enrol 40,000 participants in 2,000 classes. The courses will be open to vocational-school graduates and members of the public.
Training will cover technical skills, foreign languages and certification aligned with international standards. The ministry said the programme is intended to prepare Indonesians for formal employment in medium- and higher-skilled occupations overseas.
“It is time for us to have quality migrant workers, not only in terms of knowledge, but also technical competence and good soft skills,” Migrant Worker Protection Minister Mukhtarudin said.
KP2MI said recruitment for the training programme should be tied to confirmed vacancies in its SiskoP2MI placement system. The approach is intended to ensure that courses reflect demand from overseas employers and reduce the risk of preparing participants for jobs that are not available.
In its 2025 placement review, the ministry reported 296,948 migrant worker placements against a target of 259,144. It also recorded 300,500 overseas vacancies in SiskoP2MI.
