
PAPAR: A 21-year-old Indonesian was killed and several others injured after the tourist van they were travelling in crashed at Km 36, Jalan Kimanis-Keningau, here, Thursday.
District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the incident occurred about 5.30pm when the van driver, heading from Keningau to Kota Kinabalu, lost control of the vehicle while going downhill.
“The van ferrying 14 tourists entered the opposing lane before hitting a hillside by the road. Due to the impact, the vehicle overturned several times before stopping by the roadside,” he said.
Kamaruddin said the Indonesian suffered chest and leg injuries and was extricated by other passengers before he collapsed and was rushed to the Papar Hospital with another injured passenger.
“He was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the hospital about 7.50pm,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
