It was heartening to learn from former High Court Judge Dato' Syed Ahmad Idid who had shared the series of my stories about the past, present & future of HR as published by newswav.com with a former Industrial Court Chairman Dato' Eugene Tan resulted with his positive feedback “I find your effort in HR very inspiring. Can I contribute anything to your HR effort.” Dato' Syed suggested me to get in touch with Dato' Eugene of which I did quick follow up.

As an HR practitioner, I realize that the Industrial Court plays a crucial role in maintaining industrial harmony by adjudicating dispute between employers, employees, and trade unions. It provides specialized, equitable arbitration for cases like wrongful dismissal and collective agreement disputes, authorized under the Industrial Relations Act, 1967. It ensures workers are protected & that industrial disputes are resolved according to equity & good conscience.

I also received feedback from former MIPM General Manager John Ambrose who is currently residing in Australia. John disclosed an interesting case that “If Dato' Syed had not arranged for RM30,000 overdraft lifeline with Public Bank, MIPM would have become insolvent and died … I know this because my first pay-cheque came out of this overdraft arranged by him. Dato' actually gave MIPM it's second life. And he gave me the opportunity to set things right."

In a nutshell, John revealed about Dato' Syed that “These things are what sets some people apart from the ordinary. Dato' was and still is - an exception to the rule. I got paid for the work I did. Dato' did it out of conviction as a caring MIPM leader & the goodness of his heart. And that's a HUGE difference.”

There is so much for young HR professionals to learn from Dato' Syed & Dato' Eugene, marked by significant HR uncertainty & challenges beyond 2026.
