Loss worth crores was suffered by MSJ Fittings and Accessories, an industrial unit located at Jharmajri in Barotiwala, in a massive fire that broke out this morning. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. No loss of life was reported in the incident.
A 15-member team from the Baddi fire station rushed to the spot after receiving information around 4.09 am, along with fire tenders, to douse the fire.
The fire, which started in the store room, gutted raw material as well as finished goods besides high-value machines such as automatic plating machines, laser polishing machines, testing equipment, wall mixers, and other equipment.
Aggressive firefighting over six hours helped extinguish the blaze, which spread rapidly within minutes due to the presence of inflammable polishing and varnishing material inside the single-storey industrial unit. Five fire tenders were deployed to control the fire.
Though the unit staff initially tried to extinguish the fire using automatic fire extinguishers, they later sought help from the fire department after the blaze assumed alarming proportions, a unit official said.
Santosh Sharma, Commandant, Home Guards, Solan, said goods worth Rs 2 crore were saved due to the timely action of the fire staff.
