Panic broke out near the Sadar police station in Kapurthala early Friday morning as a massive fire tore through the local fruit market. The blaze completely gutted seven temporary shops, reducing goods worth lakhs of rupees to ashes.
The fire brigade received the emergency call at 5.07 am. Two fire tenders, led by fireman Gurpreet Singh, arrived shortly after. It took the 10-member team approximately 90 minutes of strenuous effort to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent stalls.
While the exact cause remains unknown, the police have registered a case. An official investigation into the incident is underway.
