A squid jigging boat accident victim in Terengganu receives medical and income replacement benefits from Socso under the Lindung 24 Jam scheme.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The plight of an administrative assistant injured in a squid jigging boat sinking in Terengganu waters early this month eased after receiving protection under LINDUNG 24 Jam coverage from the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).

PERKESO said Muhammad Farris Zakwan Mohd Ibrahim, 33, attached to the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) in Kuala Lumpur, is eligible to receive medical benefits and Temporary Disablement Benefits (FHUS) as income replacement during his sick leave from July 4 to today, amounting to RM1,368.

He is also eligible for ongoing physiotherapy to aid recovery of his injured hand, with full costs covered by PERKESO.

“Checks by PERKESO revealed Muhammad Farris is an active contributor under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4), making him eligible for LINDUNG 24 Jam protection.

“The incident proves that accidents can occur at any time, including when employees are on leave, and LINDUNG 24 Jam protection ensures eligible contributors continue to receive appropriate assistance,” read a statement from PERKESO.

Muhammad Farris expressed gratitude to PERKESO for the assistance, saying the benefits provided relief during his incapacity to work and allowed him to undergo treatment and physiotherapy without worrying about high medical costs.

On July 3, an assistant skipper died, three were injured, and eight others survived when a squid jigging boat sank in Terengganu waters.
