Malaysian workers have until 31 August 2026 to opt out of Socso’s Lindung 24 Jam scheme. If you do nothing by then, you will be enrolled automatically. The opt out window opened on 13 July, and workers who do not wish to participate must submit a liability release declaration through the Lindung Faedah portal before the deadline.

Here’s the important part. Those who fail to submit the form by 31 August will automatically be considered participants in the scheme, in line with the Employees’ Social Security (Amendment) Act 2026, which came into force on 1 June 2026 and made coverage mandatory for all eligible workers. Once enrolled, contributions continue under a “once eligible, always eligible” basis, so this is not a decision you want to make by accident.

For a quick recap, Lindung 24 Jam, officially known as the Non Work Accident Scheme (SKBBK), extends Socso protection beyond working hours. While your existing Socso coverage protects you against workplace and commuting accidents, Lindung 24 Jam covers accidents unrelated to your job, such as a fall at home on a Sunday, a road accident during a personal trip, or injuries sustained during your weekend futsal session.

The scheme was initially made mandatory for all Malaysian employees when it took effect on 1 June 2026. Following public backlash, the government made the scheme voluntary for Malaysian workers with effect from 8 July 2026, although it remains mandatory for foreign workers covered under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969.

Unlike your regular Socso contribution, the Lindung 24 Jam contribution is fully borne by the employee. The contribution starts at 0.75% of your salary during the first phase from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2028, increases to 1% during the second phase from 1 June 2028 to 31 May 2031, and rises to 1.25% from 1 June 2031 onwards. In other words, the rate you pay today will not remain the same in the future.

Whether you choose to remain in the scheme is entirely up to you, but it should be a conscious decision rather than the default outcome. If you want 24 hour protection, you do not need to do anything because you will be enrolled automatically. If you do not wish to participate, log in to the Lindung Faedah portal and submit the Liability Release Declaration before 31 August 2026. Whichever option you choose, do not let the deadline decide for you.
