Injured triathlete Ellis to miss Asian Games

PHILIPPINE triathlete Kira Ellis is due to miss the upcoming Asian Games in Japan because of an injury and an accident.

Ellis won two gold and three silver medals at last year’s SEA Games in Thailand.

In a social media post, Ellis said she has had more downs than ups for this year, mentioning that she had one of the worst bicycle accidents in recent memory.

“Starting the year with stitches, then getting injured in my knees a few weeks later, which lasted around seven months (plus an old injury resurfacing as well), and then having one of my worst accidents on the bike so far. To keep it short, I was hit by a car on one of my training rides, and unfortunately, this means I won’t be racing this year,” Ellis wrote on her Facebook page on Friday.

“These past few months have been a roller coaster for me, both mentally and physically. I always tried to stay strong and push through, hoping to make a comeback in the last few months we have left of this year. However, after this accident, I’ve really been forced to slow down and rest, which I now believe is much needed,” she added.

The bemedaled SEA Games triathlete said while she is lucky enough to only have a few broken bones and bruises, she will take the rest of the year to rest.
