Kota Kinabalu: Zara Qairina Mahathir’s stepsister told the Coroner’s Court on Tuesday that her stepmother repeatedly told her hurtful things during her childhood, including that she was an illegitimate child.
The 81st deponent, Malianah Mahathir, 25, said Noraidah Lamat also frequently told her that her father did not like her and made remarks about her biological mother.
Responding to questions from Conducting Officer Mohamad Fairuz Johari, Malianah said she felt her stepmother did not like her and that their relationship throughout the period she stayed with Noraidah was not good.
She said Noraidah was nice when her father was around but would hurt her feelings with harsh words when he was away working, adding that she was in Year Four at the time and her father was frequently away for five to six days a week.
Malianah said the remarks had affected her feelings towards herself and her family, including making her question whether her biological mother hated her, and she eventually told her biological mother about what had been said.
