The world’s southernmost hotel has opened in Chile, but there is a catch: you need to be a guest on a Silversea cruise to stay there.
The luxury cruise line opened Cormorant at 55 South in Chile this month, a purpose-built hotel designed for guests to stay in before and after its Antarctica cruises.
Based in Puerto Williams, Chile – the world’s southernmost city – the hotel has 150 rooms that overlook either the subantarctic forest or the Beagle Channel.
Guests can sample Chilean wine in Bar Sur, try local delicacies in Latitude 55 and relax in the Fireplace Lounge.
It is only open to passengers booked on Silversea’s Antarctica fly cruises.

There are 29 fly cruises available until March 2027 aboard its Silver Endeavour, Silver Wind and Silver Cloud cruise ships.
These cruises start with a flight to Santiago, Chile, before a Silversea charter flight to Puerto Williams.
Guests previously stayed in the Punta Arenas area, farther north, but will now stay one night in Cormorant at 55 South before flying to King George Island in Antarctica to board the ship and begin their expedition cruise. The trip ends with a one-night hotel stay before flying home.
Silversea’s expedition experts, the same specialists who guide the brand’s Antarctic voyages, will also be at the hotel and can help with activities such as kayaking the Beagle Channel, guided hikes on Navarino Island and horse riding excursions.
Cruise fares start from £9,300 per person and include the hotel stay.
Many guests book Antarctica fly cruises to skip the Drake Passage, where sea conditions can be rough.
Silversea also sails through the Drake Passage and starts with a hotel stay in Santiago before boarding in Puerto Williams.
The expedition cruise line has 40 Antarctica voyages on offer, with itineraries ranging from six to 21 nights, with stops including the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.
Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea, said: “Antarctica is central to Silversea’s expedition program, and this season gives guests even greater choice in how they reach it.
“Some will explore the Falkland Islands and South Georgia in the footsteps of famed explorers, before continuing to the Antarctic Peninsula, while others will opt for our innovative Antarctica Fly Cruise programme, now enhanced by the unveiling of The Cormorant at 55 South, which welcomes its first guests this season.
“The Cormorant will create a uniquely seamless journey to Antarctica, opening up a part of the world that is often difficult to explore, yet has so much to offer. We can’t wait to welcome guests to discover it at the southernmost hotel on Earth.”
