Kota Kinabalu: Effective March 10, vehicle users in both the administrative areas of City Hall and Penampang Municipal Council (MPP) will be able to use the Sabah Smart Parking (SSP) and Flexi Parking (FP) applications.

Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said users no longer need to download multiple applications for the same purpose, reducing confusion and enhancing convenience in daily parking management.

He said since its introduction on Oct 16, 2024, the SSP application has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public.

“More than 270,000 registered users have benefited from this system in their daily transactions. This indicates public acceptance of the digitalisation of the parking system and the need to improve the services offered continuously.

“However, one major challenge users face is the requirement to use two separate applications to pay for parking fees in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang.

“This situation inconveniences users, causes confusion and increases reliance on multiple digital platforms.

“Therefore, the integration of SSP and FP used by MPP is a much-anticipated solution for the community,” he said during the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the implementation of the SSP and FP digital parking application integration in a hotel, here, Friday.

The MoU was signed by Sabin and MPP President Francis Chong, and witnessed by the Local Government and Housing Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Jamili Nais.

Sabin also said implementing this system introduces several additional features to facilitate users further.

“Among them is the ability to check and pay outstanding compound fines issued by City Hall and MPP.

“With this feature, users no longer need to physically visit service counters, as all information can be easily accessed through the digital application.

“This not only saves time and effort but also enhances the efficiency of parking enforcement systems in both administrative areas,” he said.

Sabin added that the integration initiative aligns with the Government’s aspirations to expand digitalisation in public services.

“In the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, the use of technology is no longer an option but a necessity to ensure a more effective and responsive service delivery system,” he said.
