TROPICAL Storm “Kiyapo” has made landfall on Camiguin Island in Calayan, Cagayan, gaining strength as it heads toward Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
In its 5 p.m. bulletin, Pagasa said that “Kiyapo” was moving west-northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and has gusts of up to 105 kilometers per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 has been declared in the areas of Batanes, the northern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, Camalaniugan, Aparri, Ballesteros, Abulug, Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Buguey, Allacapan, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, Baggao, Lasam) including the Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of Apayao (Luna, Santa Marcela, Calanasan, Pudtol, Flora), and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Adams, Bangui, Burgos, Vintar).
Areas under Signal No. 2 can expect winds stronger than 62 kilometers per hour and up to 88 kilometers per hour in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the rest of mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the rest of Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, the rest of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union, and the northern and central portions of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao) are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.
Areas under Signal No. 1 should expect winds of 39 to 61 kilometers per hour and intermittent rains in the next 36 hours.
