MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm "Kiyapo" made landfall in Camiguin Island in Calayan, Cagayan, intensifying further as it makes its way toward Batanes, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Friday.
In its 5 p.m. bulletin, Pagasa said that "Kiyapo" was moving west-northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour (kph), packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.
Signal No. 2 has been raised in the areas of Batanes, the northern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, Camalaniugan, Aparri, Ballesteros, Abulug, Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Buguey, Allacapan, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, Baggao, Lasam) including Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of Apayao (Luna, Santa Marcela, Calanasan, Pudtol, Flora), and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Adams, Bangui, Burgos, Vintar).
Areas under Signal number 2 can expect winds greater than 62 kph and up to 88 kph in the next 24 hours.
The rest of mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the rest of Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, the rest of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union, and the northern and central portions of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao) are under Signal No. 1, which will carry winds of 39-61 kph and intermittent rains in the next 36 hours.
Pagasa said that "Kiyapo" was expected to further intensify while it traversed Extreme Northern Luzon, continuing to move west-northwestward toward the Luzon Strait and the West Philippine Sea.
"Kiyapo" is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility late Friday or early Saturday.
