Inter Milan great Beppe Bergomi says Luciano Spalletti should be the next Italy coach.
Roberto Mancini resigned as Italy coach on Sunday, so leaving FIGC seeking a replacement.
Bergomi insists former Napoli coach Spalletti should be offered the post: "Luciano Spalletti, a man who has ideas, enthusiasm, who knows how to recharge your batteries and who comes off a win.
"Then I know he wanted to take a break but he wants to stay on the pitch. If he can convey that desire to the group, he could be the right man to take Italy to the European Championships.
"(Antonio) Conte? I'll put him later because he's already been in the national team, let's remember the excellent European Championships in 2016 with a not as strong squad as the one Mancini had in 2021. But I'm going with Spalletti because Conte has already gained experience and the horses returning to the national team have never done well.
"You need the desire to start again and enthusiasm."
