
Kota Kinabalu: Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick chaired the first 2025 Federal Development Project Monitoring Coordination Intervention Committee meeting in Sabah at the Federal Secretary’s Office on Thursday.
The meeting, co-chaired by Deputy Chief Minister III cum Public Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, focused on intervention strategies for pre-implementation projects, including those delayed since the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) through the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

“Among the proposals was to break down the categories of pre-implementation projects from 2013 to 2022 by listing delayed projects, cancelled, re-tendered, identifying issues, proposals, needs, interventions and completion targets for each project involved.

Read more “Other than that, I also proposed establishing an intervention lab to assess pre-implementation projects requiring further evaluation.
“Next month, the focus of the meeting will be on interventions for pre-implementation projects under the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education,” he said after the meeting.
Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});During a Special Coordination and Monitoring Meeting on Dec 7, last year, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof had requested Ewon to chair the monthly meeting of this intervention committee to ensure the effective realisation of pre-implementation projects in Sabah.
Ewon appreciated the commitment of all meeting members who were determined to fulfil their responsibilities and contribute to the successful execution of each planned development project.

He also said the Federal Cabinet had decided that, under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), the site issues of each project must be resolved before project proposals are included in 13MP.
“The State Government needs to learn from existing plans, and I suggest that the state government through the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) organise a retreat with all ministries, departments, and agencies before project proposals are included in 13MP.
“This is important to avoid recurring issues like stalled, cancelled, or delayed projects,” he said.
During the meeting, Ewon appreciated the commitment of the State Government, particularly the Public Works Department (JKR), which had advertised the recruitment of 32 civil engineers, five architects, and 108 assistant civil engineers to drive the implementation of physical projects entrusted to JKR Sabah following the department’s recognition as a technical body for implementing projects valued at RM50 million and below.
