Investigation launched after fire breaks out at property close to London synagogue

  • A significant fire erupted near a synagogue on Cazenove Road, Stamford Hill, north London, on Thursday afternoon, prompting a large-scale response from the London Fire Brigade.
  • Around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines were dispatched to the scene at 4:14 pm to tackle the blaze, which affected the roof and other floors of the building.
  • The London Fire Brigade has stated that the fire is not believed to have been started deliberately, although investigations are continuing to ascertain the precise cause.
  • Three people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, with two individuals subsequently taken to hospital for further medical attention.
  • Volunteers from Shomrim, a Jewish neighbourhood watch organisation, confirmed the fire's proximity to a synagogue and provided support to Hackney police, while the public was advised to avoid the affected area.
