The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) Sport Integrity Awards honour individuals and organisations whose leadership has set the highest benchmark for integrity in sports.
SIGA co-founder, global chief executive officer and SIGA Asia executive chairman, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, said the awards were more than just a recognition platform.
“They honour tangible achievements and meaningful impact – actions that advance integrity, strengthen institutions and build real trust across the sporting world,” he said. “They highlight those whose leading example sets the benchmark for others, creating a legacy that will shape the sector for years to come.”
He said this as the Sport Integrity Awards took place on Nov 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
International Olympic Committee president Kirsty Coventry was named ‘Sport Leader of the Year’. Tottenham Hotspur FC, European Aquatics, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) – recognised for successfully organising the AFC Champions League 2024/2025 – were among the other inaugural award recipients.
AFC general counsel and legal affairs director, Andrew Mercer, who received the award on behalf of the regional body, said: “At the heart of the AFC’s mission statement is the desire to ensure that the AFC’s competitions, matches, and the conduct of its people conform to the highest ethical and sporting standards.
“We thank SIGA for this immense honour and we commend them for championing the AFC’s cherished values of integrity and good governance.
“We must also praise the AFC’s Participating Member Associations and clubs for their dedication to upholding the key tenets of fair play and sportsmanship, and this award is a tribute to their steadfast efforts.”
The awards ceremony was hosted by SIGA’s partners, ESTAAD and Cityscape Global, and formed a key component of SIGA’s Sport Integrity Action Month.
