Ipswich unveil new manager after Kieran McKenna’s shock resignation

  • Ipswich Town has officially appointed Gary O’Neil as their new manager, signing him to a three-year deal until the summer of 2029, as the club prepares for its return to the Premier League.
  • O’Neil, aged 43, takes over from Kieran McKenna, who departed earlier this month after successfully guiding Ipswich to automatic promotion from the Sky Bet Championship last season.
  • The new manager expressed his excitement for the role, stating it is an honour to lead Ipswich in the Premier League and acknowledging the strong vision and ambition at the club.
  • O’Neil brings significant experience, having previously managed French side Strasbourg, where he led them to the semi-finals of European football’s Conference League and the Coupe de France.
  • He will be joined by Tim Jenkins, Neil Critchley, and Ed Ames as part of his backroom staff, and the team is set to play their first Premier League game on 22 August against Sunderland at Portman Road.
