A well-known Iranian expert and critic has been detained in Iran, the judiciary-linked news agency Mizan reported on Wednesday.
Sadegh Zibakalam was detained in the morning, Mizan said, alleging that he violated judicial conditions. He is alleged to have breached a ban on being active on social media and to have given an interview that led to a new criminal complaint. His case has been handed over to the public prosecutor's office.
Since the outbreak of the war launched by the United States and Israel at the end of February, Iran's judiciary has stepped up its actions against critics in the country.
The Iranian government justifies its measures with a crackdown on suspected spies and traitors. As part of the repression, numerous prison sentences have been handed down, and there have been mass arrests. Dozens of death sentences have been carried out.
