These days, the economy is so bad that dining at an inexpensive restaurant will cost an average of RM10. So, if we were to eat out for all three meals of the day, that would be at least RM30!

You might ask, “But there must be another way, right?”. Well, with some compromises like eating a smaller portion and packing your own lunch, it is possible!

This was demonstrated by food content creator, Aaron or @overeat.my who recently shared a TikTok of him attempting to survive with just RM10 in a day.

For breakfast, he got a packet of nasi lemak he’s been eying from a roadside vendor. The nasi lemak wrapped in banana leaf came with sambal and a small piece of egg and cost only RM1!

“I have no complaints because it’s just a ringgit and it’s enough for breakfast,” he said, adding that the only thing he’s not liking is that he can’t get his coffee fix.

Then, for lunch, he dropped by a mini mart to get some instant noodles. Although instant noodles have always been known for being cheap, that’s not very true nowadays as imported brands such as the famous spicy Korean noodles, Samyang Hot Chicken ramen can go up to RM5+ per cup.

So, to stay within the RM10 budget, Aaron only got the Maggi Kari Hot Cup for RM2.

According to him, the instant noodles were “barely sufficient for his lunch, but his strategy is to save enough money for a heavy dinner.”

Nutrition wise, this is definitely not recommended. Do not try this,” he said as he slurped on Malaysians’ favourite instant curry noodles.

Finally, it was dinner time! He dropped by a nearby mixed rice stall aka variety heaven to get some vitamins and proteins in after a day of only carb-filled meals.

Although it can be cheap, mixed rice stalls are quite unpredictable in terms of their price, especially if you’ve never bought from them before. So, he had to be careful with the dishes he took so as not to exceed his remaining RM7 budget.

With curry gravy on his rice, sweet sour meat and some vegetables, the mixed rice came up to a total of RM6.60!

“A total of RM9.60 spent in a day and I call this challenge a success!” he exclaimed, sharing that he initially thought it would be impossible to survive on just RM10, but guess not.
