SHAH ALAM - It appears that PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli is softening his tone on the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN) littoral combat ship (LCS) project scandal.
His recent statement in the media denotes a mellow tone where he said now focus should be given on finishing two or three LCS with the remaining funds.
This was opposed to his previous strong statements on irregularities in the project. He was also responsible for a series of revelations claiming that there were doubts involving several companies which were involved in the project.
International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)'s Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science, Dr Syaza Shukri said it looks like Rafizi could probably moving past this issue, as PH had formed the unity government with their political allies.
His position as a minister in the Cabinet could also be the reason, she added.
"If he continues to threaten and expose the alleged scandal, people will accuse him of still having an opposition mindset,” she told Sinar Daily.
His actions now proves that Rafizi is trying to be a good team player within this unity government, Syaza said.
“There is not much he can do now anyway”, she added.
Another political expert from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Dr Abdul Aziz Azizam said Rafizi brought the sensational impact on LSC scam during the GE15.
"Therefore, the public is puzzled as to what had transpired in this scandal but now he claims that it is under investigation? he asked.
Earlier today, Rafizi critisised those questioned his current stand on the matter via a Twitter post.
In his tweet, he also said that he had already finished exposing possibilities of regulation in the project.
Rafizi said that some parties had been charged and investigations were ongoing on the matter.
Previously, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan confirmed that LCS project will be continued but will be subjected to a review.
