Many are saying that they hope they are not caught by surprise again like last year, in 2022 when the change in date was announced at the last minute.
On social media, news are circulating on the possibility of Raya being held a day ahead of schedule for this year too.
Calendars have fixed 22 and 23 April as official Hari Raya holidays.
In the last few days, social media is abuzz about Raya Aidilfitri being held one day earlier.
Consider this news item: "UAE astronomer confirms Eid al-Fitr (Hari Raya Aidilfitri) dates for 2023 in United Arab Emirates".
"The first day of Eid al-Fitr will fall on April 21, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the start of the Islamic month of Shawwal, a UAE-based astronomer confirmed on Monday.
“Ramadan’s full moon will be on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 8.36 a.m. local time, while the crescent of the moon of Shawwal will be born on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 8.13 a.m, and will set 22 minutes after sunset,” Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society Ibrahim al-Jarwan was quoted as saying on local media source UAE Barq.
"If the government confirms the dates, UAE citizens and residents will get a four-day weekend with both Friday April 21 and Monday April 24 off."
Meanwhile, in Malaysia we received the following video which makes a similar prediction complete with simulated sighting of the new moon on Tiktok @sajetasofta.
If these two predictions turned out to be true and accepted by the authorities chances are you'll be donning your brand new Hari Raya outfit on your way to pray at the mosque and extend your salam Aidilfitri to everyone on April 21 instead of on 22nd as announced.
Anyway, if it did happen then you know you have been forewarned.
If not then you are well prepared. We do not want our women folks to be surprised again like last year.
