The Malaga-born forward is set to sign on for the next two seasons at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, where he’ll link up with coach Julen Lopetegui, the man who brought out his best for for both club and country.
Sevilla FC have reached an agreement with Isco which will see the talented forward become the team’s third summer signing. He has already arrived in Seville to sign a two-year contract.
The move will see him reunite with Julen Lopetegui, the coach who bought the best out of him both for the Spanish national team and Real Madrid. The Basque coach’s love for the talented Malaga-born player is no secret, and they’ll now link up once again in their quest to push Sevilla FC into genuine title contention.
30-year-old Isco adds to Sevilla FC’s talented line of attacking midfielders, which already features the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Papu Gómez and Oliver Torres, all players who are comfortable on the ball and look to push forward and break the opposition line’s defensive lines.
After starting off at Málaga’s academy, Isco caught Valencia CF’s eye at the age of 14. He would make the move to the Valencia academy, making his first-team debut with the team in a cup match against Logroñés. In the 2010/11 season, he would play in two Champions League games and one LaLiga Santander game.
Isco returned to Málaga in the summer of 2011. In his first season, he played 32 LaLiga Santander games, scoring five goals. He helped the team qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history. In that campaign, Isco played ten times and scored three goals. In the 2012/13 season, he would play in almost every game, registering 37 appearances and nine goals.
Such was his talent that at only 21 years of age Real Madrid would come looking. He could not have fit in better in his first season in Madrid, playing 53 games in total, scoring eleven and assisting nine. He would go on to win the Champions League and Copa del Rey that season.
The next season, he played 52 games. He added the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup to his name, in addition to six goals and thirteen assists. Isco won the Champions League again in 2015/16, and the season after, he won it all: LaLiga Santander, the Champions League, the Club World Cup and another UEFA Super Cup. And his trophy cabinet kept on growing in the 2017/18 season, adding his fourth Champions League, his third UEFA Super Cup and his third Club World Cup.
The 2018/19 season brought another Club World Cup, with six goals and an assist in 37 games. The next season, the season of the COVID outbreak, another LaLiga Santander title and the Spanish Super Cup. In his last two seasons at the club, he made fewer appearances but still managed to come away with another Champions League, LaLiga Santander and the Spanish Super Cup.
On an international level, Isco has been a Spanish international since U17 level, with whom he won a bronze level at the 2009 World Cup in Nigeria. He made his debut with the senior side under Vicente del Bosque in February 2013 in a friendly against Uruguay and has since gone on to win 38 caps, scoring 12 goals. His best football in a La Roja shirt came under the tutelage of Julen Lopetegui, the man he is now reunited with in the hope of rediscovering his best form.
