KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to appear in court Thursday after his lawyer confirmed he had been discharged from National Heart Institute (IJN) following recent treatment.
Lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, who represented the 66-year-old Umno leader, confirmed when contacted by Sinar Harian that his client was now in good condition.
“Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri is getting better and was allowed to return home after receiving treatment at IJN recently.
“Insya-Allah, he is expected to be in court before 9am tomorrow,” he said.
Based on court records, the charge against the Bera Member of Parliament is scheduled to be read before judge Suzana Hussin under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, believed to be related to an asset declaration.
Ismail Sabri had previously been called in several times to record statements with the MACC in connection with his asset declaration.
In the course of investigations, the MACC seized RM170 million in cash in various foreign currencies and 16 kilogrammes of pure gold bullion estimated to be worth RM7 million.
The seizures were made during searches at a residence and an office believed to have been used as a safe house, following the arrest of four of Ismail Sabri's senior aides in February 2025.
On Aug 7, Ismail Sabri underwent a procedure to implant a wireless pacemaker to treat an irregular heartbeat at IJN.
Following the procedure, prosecution proceedings that had been scheduled three weeks earlier were postponed to Aug 27.
