SABAH’S hardcore poor living in rural areas makes it difficult for them to participate in income-generating programmes offered by the government – like eKasih.

Sabah Rural Development Ministry (KPLB) Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim said this, coupled with the mentality of a stubborn few who refuse to cooperate with programmes implemented, poses a challenge in eradicating extreme poverty in the State.

In a Daily Express 2023 Ministry Focus special, Jahid disclosed the main challenges faced by the Ministry and the most affected districts.

He said a total of 18,853 Sabahans are registered under the eKasih programme as of October 2023, indicative that 16.5 per cent of the State’s households fall under the hardcore poor category.
