A left ankle injury to Germany centre back Nico Schlotterbeck took the shine off their qualification for the World Cup last 32 on Saturday.

The Borussia Dortmund player was hurt early on in the 2-1 comeback win over Ivory Coast. He was substituted at half-time for Antonio Rüdiger.

"He has got something with his ligament, I don't know what yet," coach Julian Nagelsmann told ZDF in Toronto. "He will have to have a scan tomorrow, unfortunately it doesn't look too good."

Schlotterbeck missed almost half a year in 2025 due to a knee tear.
