KUALA LUMPUR – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution has condemned Israel’s actions in intercepting and detaining the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission bound for Gaza.
The mission, which aimed to deliver essential aid to Palestinians, was unlawfully obstructed by Israeli forces, violating international law and humanitarian principles.
"I stand in solidarity with the people of Malaysia in condemning the actions of the Zionist Israeli regime for intercepting and detaining the Global Sumud Flotilla. These ships, which carried volunteers and essential supplies for Palestinians, should have been protected, not obstructed with violence," the Minister said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) echoed the calls of the Malaysian public, demanding the immediate release of the activists and volunteers involved in the mission. It also emphasised that peaceful protests, such as those held in solidarity with Palestine, are a fundamental right guaranteed by the Federal Constitution.
However, the Ministry expressed strong disapproval of individuals who disrupted a peaceful protest outside the US Embassy on October 2, 2025, hindering the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) from carrying out their duties. Despite police efforts to ensure public safety, some protesters resorted to violence, injuring a police officer.
"Rights to peaceful assembly must be exercised responsibly, respectfully, and in accordance with the law, without compromising public safety or obstructing law enforcement from carrying out their duties. No one can use the right to assemble as an excuse to incite chaos or jeopardise national security," the Ministry’s statement read.
KDN assured the public that PDRM would continue to perform its duties in safeguarding public safety and maintaining order. It called on citizens to respect the law, comply with regulations, and cooperate fully with the authorities.
KDN, alongside the voice of the Malaysian people, has reiterated the demand for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained activists and volunteers, especially the Malaysians involved. "They are civilians, unarmed, and on a humanitarian mission to deliver crucial aid to the people of Gaza," the Minister emphasised.
The Malaysian Government’s commitment to the safety and security of its citizens remains unwavering, and it will pursue all diplomatic and legal avenues to hold Israel accountable for its unlawful actions.
Malaysia continues to stand in steadfast support for the Palestinian people, advocating for justice and freedom until these are achieved.
This follows the arrests of two men, aged 23 and 32, for injuring a police officer during a pro-Palestinian protest outside the United States Embassy on October 2, 2025. Kuala Lumpur’s police chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, confirmed the arrests for obstructing police duties during the demonstration, which began at around noon.
The protest, initially involving approximately 50 participants, turned tense when some individuals blocked traffic along Jalan Tun Razak. Amidst the chaos, a police officer sustained an injury to the mouth after being elbowed by one of the protesters while ensuring security at the scene.
"An investigation has been initiated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties," Fadil said, adding that the case is still under investigation.
He urged both organisers and participants to comply with all laws and regulations when exercising their right to peaceful assembly, as guaranteed by the Federal Constitution.
"The police respect the public's right to gather peacefully and are ready to provide necessary security, but we will act firmly against anyone who breaks the law," he added.
Members of the public with information regarding the incident are urged to contact the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the nearest police station.
The protest was sparked by Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which resulted in the detention of over 200 activists, including 23 Malaysians, as they attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. - October 3, 2025
