ITV beats off competition from BBC to secure 2027 Rugby World Cup broadcasting rights

  • ITV has secured exclusive broadcasting rights for the men's Rugby World Cup 2027, ensuring all 52 matches from the expanded tournament in Australia will be shown on its channels.
  • The broadcaster successfully retained these rights despite facing competition from the BBC, which showed the Women's Rugby World Cup last year.
  • This agreement reinforces ITV's position as the free-to-air home of rugby union, complementing its existing rights for the Nations Championship in 2026 and 2028, and a majority of men's Six Nations games.
  • Neil Sloane, ITV’s director of sport, described the deal as “monumental” for UK audiences, extending a long-standing partnership with World Rugby that began in 1991.
  • As part of the comprehensive deal, ITV will also broadcast all England men’s international warm-up games leading up to the 2027 World Cup.
