J.J. Spaun returned to the winners’ circle after his impressive victory at the Valero Texas Open on Sunday.

Spaun began the final round of the Valero Texas Open two shots back of the leader, Robert MacIntyre.

However, he posted a superb round of five-under-par 67 in tricky conditions on Sunday at TPC San Antonio to win by a single shot.

Spaun now has three PGA Tour wins to his name after his triumph at the Valero Texas Open.

He won his first PGA Tour title at TPC San Antonio in 2022 before his surprise victory at the U.S. Open last year.

Since his win at Oakmont, he has been in fairly poor form by his standards, so his victory this week will have been a very welcome one.

J.J. Spaun’s first words after winning the Valero Texas Open

Spaun took some time off following the Ryder Cup in September after admitting he had become ‘sick of looking at his clubs’.

That self-imposed break from the game seems to have done him the world of good.

After his win at the Valero Texas Open, Spaun can now look ahead to the future with real excitement.

Spaun spoke to reporters after MacIntyre missed his putt for a birdie on the 18th green, thus confirming the American as the champion.

This game is so crazy, Spaun exclaimed.

I have not been in the form I wanted to be based off of last season.

I have been trying to take each day as it comes and trying to accept what I have.

I have such a great team behind me and it means a lot to come back and win here at a place that has been so good to me.

J.J. Spaun on the change he made which led to Valero Texas Open win

The 35-year-old American has put far too much pressure on himself this season.

He spoke to reporters about that and explained how he has reverted to his former mantra recently.

There is just so much that comes with winning big events like that, like a US open or any other major, Spaun admitted.

I put a lot of pressure on myself this year to start the year. It’s the complete opposite of the mantra I had last year which really helped me.

I tried to get back to that and went into the last few weeks starting at The Players trying to be more freed up and put less pressure on myself.

It’s been trying but sticking to that mantra has really helped me.

Spaun’s win at the Valero Texas Open should really free him up for the rest of the season, and it should not surprise anyone if he goes on to win again.
