Tuaran: The Tenghilan Closed Badminton Championship, organised by the Impian Tenghilan Badminton Club (KBIT), is not just a platform for sports competition but also an opportunity to strengthen friendships and foster camaraderie within the community.

State Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim said the importance of sportsmanship and the health benefits of participating in such sporting activities.

“Let this tournament serve as a space for friendship and togetherness among us, regardless of age,” he said these remarks while officiating the event at St. James Church Hall in Tenghilan on Saturday.

Jahid, who is also Tamparuli Assemblyman, urged participants to use the tournament as a platform to build solidarity and unity.

He added that sports are not just about winning but also a means to improve fitness and overall health.

“I hope this competition will further encourage the spirit of sportsmanship among participants while enhancing their health and fitness levels,” he said.

Also present were KBIT President Albert Joseph, Tenghilan Native Chief (KAN) Selvis Gambar, and Tamparuli Community Development Officer Boe Sindolun.

Earlier, KBIT President Albert Joseph stated that the tournament attracted many talented players from the Tenghilan area, who competed not only for the championship title but also for the joy of playing in a spirited, family-like atmosphere.

Thus, it is hoped that such tournaments will continue in the future as an initiative to promote a healthy lifestyle and cultivate public interest in badminton.

More than 50 participants from the Tenghilan area took part in the competition, which featured two categories: Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles.
