Kota Kinabalu: A car rental worker was jailed 12 months, Thursday, for having a stolen car component.

Mohd Shameer Marican Ariffin, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to having a stolen car computer box belonging to Habib Idrus Habib Mohammad at 8.55pm on July 15, 2020 at Taman Seri Gaya, here.

The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine, on conviction.

The court was told that the computer box was reported stolen from a Proton Perdana car parked at Cybersquare 2, Kepayan on July 9, 2020.

Jessica ordered Shameer to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on April 4 this year and to run concurrently with his the present sentence.

Meanwhile, two people were penalised for committing drug-related offences.

Norjamal Aping was jailed 10 months for having syabu on May 16 this year.

He was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both, on conviction.

Sukri Dikar was handed nine months’ jail for taking syabu on Feb 23 here.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.
