Jailed for having stolen motorcycle

Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old undocumented Filipino was sentenced to eight months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court for having stolen property.

Rasah Salih pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to having a stolen Yamaha motorcycle and its key belonging to one Saidduan Chok, on Dec 11, 2024, at 9.15am, at an open area in Kg Serigai, Putatan.

The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that the motorcycle was reported stolen by an unknown man from Saidduan’s house in said village.

The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine on conviction.

Rasah was ordered by the court to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.

Meanwhile, two men were charged with committing mischief by cutting a 32-foot length of electric cables belonging to the City Hall.

Alif Hussien, 29, Jamaldi Tatahil, 65, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence on Feb 26, this year, at 3am, at the pedestrian walkway at the roadside of Jalan Coastal, near Api-Api Centre.

They were jointly charged under Section 431A of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both, on conviction.

The court fixed April 22 for pre-trial case management and released the accused on a bail of RM1,600 in two sureties each. Inspector Yusdi Basri prosecuted.
