RANAU: A 47-year-old farmer was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to dishonestly assisting in concealing stolen property.
Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin ordered that Shamsuri bin Jahamin serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Jan. 18, 2026.
Shamsuri was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The court heard that the offence involved a Kyoli knapsack gasoline sprayer belonging to Ridzuan Jahamin @ Ahamin, which had been reported stolen.
Investigations established that the accused had knowingly assisted in concealing the stolen property. During police investigations, he subsequently led officers to the location where the sprayer had been hidden, enabling it to be recovered.
After the charge was read, Shamsuri pleaded guilty, prompting the court to convict and sentence him to nine months’ imprisonment.
Section 414 of the Penal Code makes it an offence to voluntarily assist in concealing, disposing of or dealing with property known or reasonably believed to be stolen.
The case serves as a reminder that individuals who knowingly assist in handling or concealing stolen property are equally liable under the law and face substantial penalties upon conviction.
