Jake Paul produced a fine performance to stop Mike Perry in the sixth round, as the YouTuber remained sharp and banked another brutal knockout to set up a fight with Mike Tyson.

Paul, 27, was due to box Tyson, 58, this evening, but the heavyweight legend suffered an ulcer flare-up on a flight in May.

But an impressive display, dropping “Platinum” Perry three times in six energy-sapping rounds, confirms the rearranged bout with boxing legend Tyson in November on Netflix.

Paul also took the opportunity to call out UFC champion Alex Pereira, although the prospect of a future meeting remains unlikely given the Brazilian’s contractual situation and UFC boss Dana White’s reluctance to allow his fighters to appear outside of his promotion.

Relive all the action from Tampa Bay below and follow reaction as Jake Paul moves to 10-1 after victory over Mike Perry.

Jake Paul reacts to victory over Mike Perry

Jack Rathborn

Paul tells Ariel Helwani: "He's tough as nails, I'm sorry it took so long, respect to Perry, the King of Violence, I hit too hard and produced too much damage.

“Mike Tyson, you’re next big boy, sign the contract, 15 November on Netflix. [UFC champion] Alex Pereira, you said you want to box, I’m the king of this, come over, we can make this happen.

“Indeed, I’ve beaten multiple UFC champions, he said he wants to box.”

Mike Tyson reveals real reason behind Jake Paul fight: ‘Can I be honest?’

06:02

Jack Rathborn

Mike Tyson has opened up on his motivations for boxing Jake Paul, as the heavyweight legend awaits his delayed fight with the YouTuber.

Tyson, 58, and Paul, 27, were due to box each other on Saturday (20 July), but “Iron Mike” suffered an ulcer flare-up on a flight in May. That health scare meant the officially sanctioned, professional bout was delayed until November, with Paul instead facing former UFC fighter Mike Perry this weekend.

Round 6

The left hook bounced off the top of Perry’s head, then a spear-like right came up through the middle to send him sprawling.

There was heart, but Paul beat up and dispatched Perry with an action-packed and maybe, at times, reckless display.

Mike Tyson next? It still feels strange to consider that fight, but for now it looks to be in the immediate plans for Paul and flirting with a bulkier frame and eventual move to heavyweight.

Round 6

Paul will want the finish here, three rounds to do the job with this bout only scheduled to go eight.

Gabe Rosado, on commentary for DAZN, is begging Perry to “put your hands up,” Paul now lurking and presumably ready to unload.

LEFT HOOK, RIGHT HAND, DOWN GOES PERRY!

Perry asked to step to his right by the referee, he does, but then almost tumbles to the canvas, it’s enough for the referee to wave this one off, Paul wins by TKO!

Jake Paul vs Mike Perry

05:53

Jack Rathborn

Round 5

Paul landed 15 power shots in round four, the end is close, surely?

What is Mike Tyson making of this? Presumably, he’s excited, there are opportunities when you fight Jake Paul, but Tyson’s conditioning would surely be exposed too.

Paul’s jab doing the jab and Perry just absorbing so many shots.

Perry is taking so much damage, Paul taking a moment to skip and glide across the ring, recovering somewhat in a rare quiet round.

Round 4

Perry, to southpaw, what is he doing!? Paul with a left hook again and that finds a home. Perry is unable to stem the flow, if he is to win this it will be with pure grit and a gutsy onslaught.

But Perry is on skates, bouncing off the ropes, Paul senses his moment! A wild moment, Paul now pawing at Perry’s head, his rival’s legs unsteady and balance still not quite there.

Paul is the more efficient fighter through three rounds, landing 56% of his shots, but Perry has thrown plenty, 49 punches, landing just 17 of them, to Paul’s output of 56 shots, with 34 connecting.

A HUGE uppercut from Paul rocks Perry to his boots at the end of that round. The doctor checks on Perry, but we continue!!

05:44

Jack Rathborn

Round 3

Some concern for Paul? He’s delivered several brutal shots, landing clean, but Perry is still there. Is his gas tank up to this intense tempo?

Is Perry trying to bully Paul now?

There is blood on both fighters’ faces. Paul with the uppercut in desperation, a smart move to project the clumsy Perry approach as he tumbles straight on towards him.

Now a messy fight, Paul is well on top, but Perry lurking and ready to make this a WAR!

This is just what you expect from a Jake Paul fight, absurd at times, but you cannot take your eyes off it. It’s not always textbook stuff, but Paul is able to deliver flashes of quality, but his conditioning gives Perry a glimmer.

Jack Rathborn

Round 3

Good grief, looping Perry shots flash past Paul’s head. He has at least delivered on his words, an aggressive approach and the fans love it.

The second knockdown was a clean right, behind the jab Paul detonated while tumbling forward, a thudding connection. Beautiful.

Round 2

That was a lively first round, Paul cautious, briefly, but then the opportunity proved too much, a clubbing right hand over the top, it bounced off Perry’s head.

Paul on the backfoot again, but then explodes forward, one-two through the guard and BOOM! DOWN GOES PERRY AGAIN!

Perry back on the front foot immediately, he has a careless approach and no regard for his own safety, where on earth is his defence? His right eye is already in an appalling state.

Paul setting traps, dangling a left as bait. But Perry with a cutting left hook of his own, now grappling, making it a dirty fight, is that his only chance?

Jake Paul vs Mike Perry

05:36

Jack Rathborn

Round 1

Paul on his toes, circling, pushing out a range-finding jab. Lands to the body.

Twitchy... BOOM! Perry is down already!

Now the grappling as Perry panics and gets up close. But this is a composed start from Paul. Perry’s hands are low, this is dangerous for him.

Perry corners Paul and whips in a combination, is Paul gassed already? OH! Left hook lands from Paul, Perry staggers...One more, and another, the left hook is Paul’s friend in the ring so far.

Jake Paul vs Mike Perry

05:35

Jack Rathborn

Paul with an intense staredown as Perry waits on the opposite side of the ring.

The third man in the ring... Christopher Young will be the referee.

There are cheers, but also some boos for Paul as he is announced. There is intrigue surrounding Paul and his performance here, likely up at 220+ lbs. Can he show an explosive side to his game ahead of the rescheduled Tyson fight?

Here we go!

Easy work!

Serrano has too much for Morgan, a barrage of shots and the knockout comes.

Katie Taylor is next and what a statement to set up that rematch.

The Irishwoman is not Morgan, but Serrano certainly has extra momentum now in her pursuit of revenge.

WHAT A KO!

An absolutely wild turn of events, Lucas Bahdi has pulled off one of the knockouts of the year!

H20 Sylve was winning every second of this fight and the... BOOM! Face first, he goes to sleep.

It’s a sickening knockout and now we hope he is OK, worrying scenes as H20 Sylve lays motionless on the canvas. Extraordinary scenes.

It was a left hook, Bahdi leaned in with the chopping right and then whipped in the left. The right did plenty of damage and might have been enough, but H20 was totally defenceless before the crushing left landed on the button.

Jake Paul vs Mike Perry LIVE: Conor McGregor mocks Paul and makes fight prediction

03:30

Alex Pattle

Conor McGregor has said he is “rooting for” Perry when the former UFC star boxes Paul tonight, while labelling the latter a “little dweeb”.

YouTuber Paul has beaten several ex-UFC fighters while compiling a 9-1 record as a professional boxer, having knocked out Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren, and having outpointed Nate Diaz and Anderson Silva.

Since leaving the UFC in 2021, Perry has excelled in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), in which McGregor recently bought a stake.

And speaking at a BKFC press conference on Thursday (18 July), McGregor said: “[You can] make a new name for yourself [here]. Look at what has happened to Michael Perry, one of our big stars here – the ‘King of Violence’, he titles himself.

“He’s had such a rise in the sport, now he’s up against a little dweeb of a thing in a fight this weekend, [and] we’re all rooting for him.”

When asked by Esquire about his motivation for fighting Paul later this year, Tyson turned to his team and asked: “Can I be honest?” The former world champion then told his interviewer: “I don’t think he can hurt me.

“[And] I’m a glory junkie. I love people thinking about me all day. I’d rather live a short life of glory than a long life of obscurity. It’s just who I am.

“This is all I started fighting for: to get all this f***ing status. I’m going to be chasing it for the rest of my life, I know that. I’m never going to get what I want, because I’m one of those gluttons for pain. I can never get enough.”

Jake Paul vs Mike Perry LIVE: Paul’s last fight revisited

02:15

Alex Pattle

Paul vs Bourland was set to be followed by a main event between Amanda Serrano and Nina Meinke, but the unified featherweight title fight was cancelled in a bizarre scene.

After Paul stopped Bourland, Meinke entered the ring in her fight gear, while Serrano arrived in sunglasses and a hoodie. A ring announcer revealed that the main event had been cancelled, and that the crowd would receive 100 per cent refunds. Champion Serrano, 35, said she had not been cleared to compete by doctors, owing to an eye injury.

“I came ready to fight, 100 per cent, I came to show my best and put on a great fight, but the doctor didn’t clear me – due to something to do with my eye,” said the tearful Puerto Rican.

“I wanted to fight in front of my people. I am so sorry from the bottom of my heart [...] I can barely see out of my eye.”

Paul, who promotes Serrano, added: “Amanda came to fight, put in a hard camp [but] she was failing some eye tests. Her cornea is exposed, you can’t risk losing your eyesight forever. I know she’s a warrior. This happened very last minute.”

Serrano, who has shared fight cards with Paul numerous times, is set to compete tonight as well; here’s hoping for no complications!

Jake Paul vs Mike Perry LIVE: Paul’s last fight revisited

01:50

Alex Pattle

In his most recent fight, in March, Paul knocked out pro boxer Ryan Bourland in the first round.

Paul quickly split the 35-year-old’s guard with repeated jabs, before adding right hands to the body and head to wobble Bourland against the ropes.

Bourland, who entered Puerto Rico with a 17-2 pro record, scrambled around in a bid to recover, but he was eventually overwhelmed in the corner.

As Paul poured on punches, Bourland fell to his knees, and the referee stepped in to wave off the cruiserweight bout. With that, YouTube star Paul moved to 9-1 as a pro.

The result in San Juan marked his second straight win against a pro boxer, with the “Problem Child” having knocked out Andre August in round one in December. Before facing Paul, Bourland had not fought since September 2022.

Jake Paul v Mike Perry weigh-in descends into chaos

Saturday 20 July 2024 23:00

There was chaos at the weigh-in following an extra effort from Jake Paul to meet the contracted weight, including stripping down even further by taking off his underwear after coming in over initially.

Paul then tipped the scales at 200 lbs, with Perry at 196.6 lbs. There were fireworks shortly after at the head-to-head, with both men shoving each other and causing a pile-on from their teams and security.

Everything gets settled later tonight though, stay with us for updates, it should be lively!

Jake Paul vs Mike Perry LIVE

Saturday 20 July 2024 22:50

Jack Rathborn

Jake Paul will box Mike Perry tonight, as the YouTuber looks to stay sharp ahead of his delayed fight with Mike Tyson.

Paul, 27, was due to box Tyson, 58, this evening, but the heavyweight legend suffered an ulcer flare-up on a flight in May. As a result of that health scare, Paul vs Tyson has been delayed until November, with that fight set to go ahead at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas – as originally planned.

But Paul was not content to wait. Having last fought in March, when he knocked out pro boxer Ryan Bourland in round one, the influencer will stay busy against Perry at the Amalie Arena in Florida.

“Platinum” Perry, 32, is a former UFC star who has excelled in bare-knuckle boxing, leading some fans to believe that Paul’s bid to ‘stay sharp’ is a risky one. That said, Paul’s record against UFC alumni is immaculate; the American has knocked out Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren, and he holds points wins over Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz.
